Subcutaneous (SubQ) Injection
To give yourself a subcutaneous injection, you can follow these steps:
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry.
- Fill the syringe with the prescribed medication.
- Pinch a fold of skin at the chosen injection site (such as the abdomen or thigh).
- Hold the syringe like a pencil and insert the needle straight into the skin.
- Push the plunger slowly to inject the medication.
- Withdraw the needle and release the skin fold.
- Apply light pressure to the injection site with a sterile gauze pad or cotton ball to prevent bleeding.
It is important to always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions and to use a new, sterile needle for each injection.
